Why you enjoy fishing: Fishing brings me harmony. It makes me feel like a kid; it conjures up so many memories with my brother and sisters growing up. For hours at a time I am so focused on where the fish are hiding, what fly they are taking and how to get the fly properly in front of them that I completely block out the world around me. Fishing requires patience, thought, preparation, passion and an intense appreciation for nature. It is an important part of my life.

Who you fish with: I still fish with my brother and sisters (now with their spouses and kids as well). All of my close friends fish with me or have learned fly-fishing from me over the years. My business partner, Steve Shrum, and I named our company Glacier Commercial Realty L.P. after an annual trip of fly-fishing to Northwest Montana.

Where you fish: I take several fly-fishing trips a year including Montana, Yucatan and Colorado. Colorado is my favorite because my father, brother and a few close friends backpack/horseback up in the Weminuche Wilderness near Pagosa Springs, Colo., for five days. We travel over 30 miles on each year's trip. It's usually centered on where we think the best creeks for fishing might be. The fish are small but still beautiful and the memories created are priceless. This has been part of our summer for the past 14 years without interruption and will continue with the next generation of Beckmans.

Equipment of choice: One of two Sage fly rods that a friend, Nathan Maier, who has passed away, hand built for me. My favorite fly is whatever they are biting.
